Based on the data obtained and compiled by the China Machine Tool Association, the following is an overview of the key operating indicators of China's machine tool industry from January to April 2025.
The entire machine tool industry achieved operating revenue of 319.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 2.0%. Among this, metal-cutting machine tools saw a year-on-year growth of 14.7%, while metal-forming machine tools recorded a year-on-year growth of 12.8%.
New orders for metalworking machine tools increased by 20.3% year-on-year, while backlogged orders also rose by 20.3%.
The national output of metal-cutting machine tools by enterprises above the designated size reached 264,000 units, marking a 16.8% year-on-year increase, while the output of metal-forming machine tools stood at 55,000 units, up 12.2% year-on-year.
The total import and export value of machine tool products was $10.6 billion, marking a 5.4% year-on-year increase. Among this, imports totaled $3.35 billion, down 0.2% year-on-year, while exports reached $7.26 billion, up 8.2% year-on-year. For metal-cutting machine tools, imports amounted to $1.62 billion, a 1.7% year-on-year increase, while exports reached $1.92 billion, rising 9.6% year-on-year. For metal-forming machine tools, imports totaled $190 million, down 18.9% year-on-year, while exports reached $1.07 billion, up 38.2% year-on-year.
